    Miss Pennsylvania

The phrase most commonly associated with Donald Trump may be "You're fired." But when former Miss Pennsylvania Sheena Monnin announced that she believed Trump's Miss USA Competition was rigged, Trump promptly responded with his other favorite comeback: "I'll sue you!"

Monnin, who did not make the contest's Top 16, claimed that Miss Florida, Karina Brez, had seen the list of the top five finalists before they were announced on the live show. Trump, who co-owns the Miss Universe Organization with NBC Universal, accused Monnin of being a sore loser and a liar, demanding monetary damages for defamation when she refused to apologize. Monnin has said she remains committed to exposing the truth.

    Trump International Hotel and Tower

In 2008, Trump sued Deutsche Bank, lead lender on one of his massive building projects, for having the audacity to ask him to return a $40 million loan. Trump reasoned that the financial crisis activated a "force majeure" clause in their agreement (covering riots, floods, and other events outside the borrower's control).

That clause, Trump argued, relieved him of his obligation to immediately pay back the sum he owed on the construction of the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago. The real estate mogul insisted that the lenders should pay him $3 million for damaging his reputation and the project. The lawsuit was eventually settled out of court.

TrumpNation: The Art of Being The Donald

The Apprentice host filed a defamation lawsuit against author Timothy L. O' Brien (and his "vicariously liable" publisher) for undervaluing his wealth in the 2005 bookTrumpNation: The Art of Being The Donald. Trump alleged that he was worth billions, not the paltry $150 million-$250 million figure that O'Brien, the former editor of the New York Times's Sunday Business section, gave in his book.

New Jersey Superior Court judge Michele Fox disagreed and dismissed the lawsuit in 2009 due to insufficient evidence.

    Taj Mahal Casino

When Marvin Roffman, an analyst at Philadelphia brokerage Janney Montgomery Scott, questioned the profitability of Trump's then-under-construction Taj Mahal casino in 1990, The Donald was furious. He told Janney Montgomery Scott that if Roffman didn't apologize (or lose his job), he would sue the firm. The brokerage did end up firing Roffman -- though it claimed that the decision had nothing to do with Trump's threat.

The analyst later fired back, suing Trump for defamation and wrongful interference with his employment -- the $2 million suit was settled the following year. He also asked a New York Stock Exchange arbitration panel to order the brokerage to compensate him for defamation, wrongful discharge, and his trouble. The firm paid Roffman $750,000.

    Rosie O'Donnell

The Miss Pennsylvania lawsuit wasn't the first time that Trump had experienced drama related to a beauty contest. In 2006, a vitriolic exchange erupted between the business magnate and talk show host Rosie O'Donnell, who likened Trump to a "snake-oil salesman" after he declined to dismiss Miss USA Tara Conner for her alleged substance abuse.

When Trump heard that O'Donnell -- whom he's dubbed "a real loser" -- had called his financial security into question, he threatened to sue her. Trump told People magazine: "You can't make false statements" and "Rosie will rue the words she said."

    He never sued.

    Lawrence O'Donnell

Rosie isn't the only O'Donnell Trump has had in his crosshairs. Last year, he quarreled with MSNBC's The Last Wordanchor Lawrence O'Donnell, who criticized Trump's presidential candidacy and his "birtherism." On October 26, @realDonaldTrump tweeted: "I heard, because his show is unwatchable, that @Lawrence has made many false statements last night about me. Maybe I should sue him?"

O'Donnell responded on the air: "Donald Trump is never going to sue me for two with reasons. First, he knows he could never prove that a single thing I've said about him is untrue. And second, and this is by far the most important one, Donald Trump will never sue me because I know his big secret, his biggest secret and he knows that I know it. Donald Trump cannot afford to sue me. And he knows it."

We're still waiting to find out that secret. Trump hasn't sued.

    Scotland

Even countries aren't immune to the threats of Donald Trump. In 2008, Trump was given permission by the Scottish government (despite local protest) to build a golf course on protected dune land in Aberdeenshire. He says that his £1 billion investment was contingent on promises from Scottish first ministers Jack McConnell and Alex Salmond that plans to build a string of wind turbines off the coast of his land would not go forward.

Now that talk of the offshore development has begun again, Trump is angry -- he's threatened to sue Scotland and has stalled the building of a hotel adjoining his golf course (set to open in July) until the government reaches a decision on the turbines.

    Irongate Wilshire

In 2009, Donald Trump was involved in a number of lawsuits surrounding the failed construction of a set of luxury condos in Baja California, Mexico. The Los Angeles developer Irongate Wilshire used Trump's name to advertise the project. When buyers found out that Trump wasn't actually playing a big role in managing and developing it, they sued him and Irongate for $32 million in down payments.

Trump, who had sold the developer the right to use his name, was piqued when he found out what happened. He withdrew from the project and sued Irongate for $40 million, claiming he wanted to help buyers recover their lost investments.

    Taj Mahal Casino

Last year, he quarreled with MSNBC's The Last Wordanchor Lawrence O'Donnell, who criticized Trump's presidential candidacy and his "birtherism." And second, and this is by far the most important one, Donald Trump will never sue me because I know his big secret, his biggest secret and he knows that I know it.

Irongate Wilshire
